Annette writes:
I’ve recently relocated to the NJ area and am seeking a position as a business analyst. I have nine years experience in the health insurance/managed care industries. As N.J. does not have many opening in those areas, I’m trying to look at consulting or medical software vendors. Do you know of resources to find ‘medically related’ companies in N.J. on either the internet or in the library?
Also, I’ve attached a copy of my resume for your review. Any input would be appreciated.
The Career Doctor responds:
Have you considered looking into a position with one of the major consulting firms, such as Accenture or PriceWaterhouseCoopers? Both of these companies have regional offices throughout the country. If you decide to stay with a health care company, you have a couple of different options. There are a number of ways to locate a list of potential companies, both offline and online. Offline sources include Standard & Poor’s Industry Surveys, the Fortune 500 list, as well as numerous organizations such as the state department of health.
Online sources fall into two categories: Websites that focus on New Jersey employment and sites that focus on the health care field. You can find job sites by going to this section of Quintessential Careers: Northeastern United States Jobs.
Health care-related sites include:
America’s Health Care Source, and
Health Care Careers Online.
You can find many other healthcare job sites in this section of Quintessential Careers:

And while I don’t want to get into critiquing resumes in this blog,
I have to tell you that your resume is simply too long. You have a
lot of experience, but you could easily condense your resume to two
pages. There are lots of great resume sites on the Web, and I suggest
you visit one or more of them for tips. For a listing of the best
resume sites, visit Quintessential Careers:
